Introduction

I (Sentry108) appreciate you stopping by to take a look at this ~~piece of trash~~ very early Alpha version of Pokémon Tarragon. Any feedback is welcome! What is seen in this version may not
be the same in future versions. I’m still learning, so there may be some issues.

This is one of a planned trilogy.

Storyline

After graduating from Sorell University, you return home to Pine Glen, where the local Professor hires you for field research and to help their assistant complete the Pokedex. Your cousin has been assisting the Professor for some time, but something feels… off.

Can you unravel the truth behind what’s really happening?

Update on HM05, it looks like it is Dive in this as it impacts 80 and i can only teach it to Gyarados and Krabby… curious if it should be Flash or not.

I’m also stuck after defeating the first gym, I’ve no idea where to go… dont particularly want to traipse back through the forest if I dont have to!

Played a fair bit of this today, just beat the first gym. I’ve noticed a couple of bugs, if it’s useful to know…

obtaining the first HM, HM05, I’ve noticed that in the bag it shows as Dive, however the description is for Flash. I’m sure it’s supposed to be Flash in this case, but i’ve yet to teach it to a pokémon.
There’s a few instances where you’re able to walk over water, and into parts of houses, hard to describe them here though. The water you can walk over is to the right of the bridge at Dewpoint, and also in the top right of the town.

Now… back to the game to see if i can catch a Sableye and get a Riolu!!!

Much love and props to the developer @Sentry108 on this… it’s awesome to play new stories with the old models.

  You get an Eevee from a chick on the beach below Pine Glen. As far as evolutions, they’re all from stones. Sun Stone for Espeon, Shiny for Sylveon, Ice for Glaceon, Leaf for Leafeon, etc. However, you can get a Leafeon right before Lost Woods, but it’s rare.

Could you add a randomizer setting in the beginning like pokemon crest and imperium there are so little hacks with that kind of start setting love your game by the way hope it reaches unbound level heights

Starting Prof Introduction
DIALOGUE ISSUE
– 3rd dialogue just go faster and auto next to 5th dialogue making it hard to follow.

VISUAL ISSUE
In the Protagonist House
– On your siblings room the bed top is overlapping in the cap of the character
– One of the Plant is going over the top of character sprite when you walk on to it.

Just Sold House (Or Momomilk house)
– Pine Glen Town banner is appearing again when you go inside

COLLISION ISSUES
Pine Glen Town
Just Sold House (Or Momomilk house)
– The 2 lonely tree near the mail box, you can walk on the half part of it.
– The Boxes inside the hous has no collision and the wall top and right to the fridge also and the blue drawer.
– The plant pot has no collision.
– The kitchen sink has unintended collision 1 square bottom and left.

Cliff’s House
– Outside, the ladder has can go inside it, can’t climb as intended.
– Inside, in the second floor there is exit that you can’t use.

Professor Lab / Building
Inside
– PC and Server next to each other
– You can walk on top of PC in front of NPC Clement
– You cannot walk on some floors at the top right part
– You can walk on the left wall of Prof. Wife

This seems like a fun one to try! [:

No idea if the devs will see this here (Guess I’ll have to go onto their official page to make the suggestion) but while it doesn’t really matter much, it’d be pretty cool to make the starter trio’s type triangle matchups a bit more cohesive. Seel becomes Ice type when it becomes Dewgong doesn’t it? I stg it does but I could be wrong Cx
At a glance, it’s a great type advantage & disadvantage combo. I never actually considered ground, electric, water/ice as one. So it’s interesting! It works the one way from G to E to W, for supereffectiveness. Then it kind of..? works in reverse? Water is neutral against Electric, Electric doesn’t affect Ground and Ground is neutral against Water. But to make it even more interesting, they could add some resistances to Ice type, in the same way they did in Altered Emerald, to where it now resists Ground and Water! (: I’ve been continuing my playthrough of that when I can, so seeing this made me think of that, and how fitting it’d be. Especially when you realize how weak Ice is as a competitive type, especially defensively, it’s not that outrageous or game-breaking to give it 2 more resistances, right? I consider it fair, however some may disagree, and that’s fine! (:
All the weaknesses that a Water/Ice type has, with how little resistances, it helps balance it A LOT. And Earthquake, or ground coverage moves in general are like everywhere ahaha
Even if it were just ground and not water, I think that’d be fine.
Flying could be another great one. Which Gligar is as well!
Ice already hits Flying types super-effectively, and most birds migrate away from the cold and to where it’s warmer. So it definitely makes sense logically. And what can a bird do against a giant block of ice 😂
When you think about them being weak against most solid, durable typings, it makes EVEN MORE sense!! Steel, rock, and ice. All 3 together resisting flying type attacks only makes sense, imho!
You hardly see bugs in the winter where it’s cold, or where it snows, so could argue them resisting bug types, too, even if not being super-effective. But Bug types get pushed around enough already I don’t think they deserve it (x
So I’d honestly say simply add Ground and Flying as resistances, it already hits them both super-effectively, I don’t see a reason for it to not resist them too. If theymade things more reciprocal, I think Ice would be so much better competitive-wise. GF themselves that is. Excluding Dragon type but that would be about it I think.

It’d make the starter much more viable and people would feel less inclined to bench it at any point. Resisting Earthquakes, Earth Powers, Magnitudes, Stomping Tantrums, Flys, Aerial Aces, and Acrobatics, Hurricanes, and even weaker ones such as Dig and Wing Attack or Gust early on, would be a game-changer. I don’t see many people abusing it to where it BREAKS the game though. No one who isn’t an ice-enthusiast is gonna run a full Ice team, and Ice has plenty of weaknesses anyway. So like I said, it’s still balanced. Even if you were to add ALL FOUR resistances mentioned (Bug, Water, Ground, Flying) Just a thought I suppose. And friendly suggestion.
100% if they did this, I’d go with Seel as my starter, as it’s always been a Pokémon I neglected. Does this have fakémon? I’d be okay with it for the starters, to maybe all get 3rd stages. Since Boltund and Dewgong both feel… unfinished, like middle-stages 100%. Gliscor I could see evolving again if it were done right. Or maybe a split evolution for Gligar which gets a 3rd form?

Otherwise, I’d go with Gligar..

Anyone else agree? Or am I out of my mind? 😂

  So, there is still a triangle, Seel -> Gligar -> Yamper -> Seel. Water/Ice takes out Ground/Flying, Ground takes out Electric, Electric takes out Water. They all still have STAB towards one another. I’ve also beefed up their stats so that they aren’t completely useless and added egg moves as level up moves/expanded their tutor/TM move pool. Gligar also evolves via level instead of night with Razer Fang.
  
  I hadn’t planned on fakemon in this, the third game in the series I had planned on adding some fakemon, starters were going to be a water cat, fire frog, and grass croc. I’m still getting my feet wet with romhacking, and working on pixel art.

  I can understand it. I don’t see a reason to be annoyed by it, but your emotions and feelings are valid. It’s how you deal with them.
  
  I know this is what most people say and you probably get it a lot. I mean this in the best way possible. You don’t have to play them. There are plenty of finished romhacks and fangames out there! So if you see a romhack come out that’s in its early stages, and that’s not up your alley, by all means, skip it. Maybe save it for later, bookmark the page on here or pokecommunity, put it in your notes, etc, and then come back to it when it IS done. They do get attention and news will come out as they are finished. 99% of the time. So you don’t have to worry about missing out. And plenty of people on YouTube showcase FINISHED romhacks and do ratings, reviews, top5s of them so you can decide what to play. They talk about old ones, but new ones too. Often having videos with titles or intros saying “top 5 new/recently finished romhacks and/or fangames [that you can play from start to finish today]!”
  
  I don’t normally like to play a game that isn’t finished. Especially because you then gotta restart it later when it eventually does get a 1.0 patch. Or hell even if it’s being worked on and getting major updates AFTER the v1.0 I might put it off until development slows down or ends.
  There’s a saying. “All good things come to an end”. I feel this is especially true for these games. If they aren’t good, they aren’t gonna receive enough attention or get people talking, and likely won’t be finished (come to an end). And a lot of these games just go on in development for years and years and years after being “finished”. They never end. Like a tv show that drags on and on. No hate here, of course! I admire them and if it’s their baby, their passion, they wanna work on it forever and continue perfecting it. I get that as well, 100%. This is definitely something I could talk about all day, but I will stop here, haha…
  
  But again in regards to games being released to the public in early stages of development, it helps them gage the community’s overall feel toward it, get some beta testing in, check for bugs and glitches so they can fix them, and allow people to get a feel for the game in its different phases, or even just see how others are enjoying the game or what they don’t like about it as well. Before the finished product comes and they can play from start to finish.
  
  It’s like reading a weekly manga, or watching a weekly anime, in that sense. (: Hope this analogy helps a bit more in understanding.
  
  So while you might not like it, plenty of people are willing to play and actively seeking out these fresh romhacks however early in dev. they are! Just to see what’s new and have some new experiences.
  
  Both this and wanting to play completed games, are valid opinions and desires.
  
  After all, games we buy on the Playstation Store, Nintendo eshop, Steam, or physically from Amazon/Wal-mart, these are all completed games (aside from DLC…) So it’s only natural that we as gamers who have only ever played finished games all throughout our childhood and beyond, would have the expectation and desire to play only completed games. It is a fair and natural expectation to have, again.
