Description

Pokémon Black 2: Silly Edition is a comedy-focused ROM hack that mixes gameplay tweaks, quality-of-life upgrades, and rewritten dialogue to offer a fresh and humorous take on the original game. The main campaign is fully playable with updated trainers and battles, but post-game trainers are still vanilla for now. Dialogue edits currently cover the first three badges, as most development time went into gameplay changes—but with that now mostly complete, more dialogue updates are on the way soon!

Features

  • All Dialogues Rewritten! New Re-Contextualized Story!
    • Story recontextualized with modern, absurd humor. Includes meme-worthy NPCs and satirical rewrites. (Dialogue is still work-in-progress. Currently only up to Gym 3 for plans for almost all dialogue being touched)
  • All Pokémon Rebalanced!
    • Completely reworked base stats, types, abilities, and movesets. Every Pokémon is viable—from Slowpoke with a Speed Boost to Shedinja with 255 across all stats.
  • 649 Catchable Pokémon in the Game!
    • Unique wild encounters for each route, cave, and fishing spot. Nuzlockers gain a huge variety early in the game.
  • Challenge Mode from the Start!
    • The infamous Challenge Mode glitch from Black 2 has been fixed, so the boosted levels actually increase difficulty. Normal Mode = harder than vanilla. Challenge Mode = a true test for hardcore players.
  • Custom Gym Leaders!
    • Each Gym Leader now has a unique theme/personality (e.g. Cheren the D&D Nerd, Drayden the Cuteness Lover, Marshall the VGC Obsessed) and a fully customized team.
  • Great Quality of Life Improvements!
    • Get free Rare Candies in Aspertia City’s Pokémon Center, an early Lucky Egg, and access to buyable consumable berries, evolution stones, EV training items, Heart Scales, Shards, and key competitive items like Focus Sash—all right from Poké Marts!
  • Early Super Rod!
    • You’ll receive a Super Rod very early in the game, with wild encounters and levels balanced accordingly. This gives Nuzlockers extra options early on and boosts the already rich variety of wild Pokémon available from the start.
  • A Master Spreadsheet!
    • All your data—Pokémon stats, moves, and encounters—in a single Google Sheet. No more messy PDFs.

Creator Note

This game does not work with the DS/3DS Twilight Menu. You will crash in summary screen! This game does however work on a large majority of emulators no problem (DeSmuMe, Drastic, MelonDS, Delta Emulator, and more all proven to work!). The game does however work on a R4 card and it may be possible to play it on real hardware if you can get it playable without using Twilight Menu!

Changelog – What’s NEW!

v1.1.0.1

  • Fixed some of the Zinzolin fights and more importantly, fixed a crash that happens on every Pokemart you go to after beating Marlon (turns out too many items were in the shop after badge 8)!

v1.1.0

  • 300+ Trainers Modified! Pretty much every trainer throughout the Black 2 Silly Edition playthrough has been modified in SOME way including all the optional areas! No Post-Game still btw 🙂
  • ALL TRAINERS ARE NOW DOCUMENTED IN THE MASTER DOCUMENT! YOU CAN VIEW ANY TRAINER AT ANY TIME AND IT SHOULD REFLECT THE CALCS TOO! IT WILL SHOW MOVESET/ABILITIES/ITEMS/ETC!
  • Trainers NO LONGER use healing items!
  • LOADS of Pokemon balance changes! Originally I had a changelog but SO many Pokemon got meaningful changes where it’d be too long and boring so just assume that every Pokemon got touched in some way! Some more than others (Moltres got reworked, Corsola was hardly worked on for example).
  • Many Pokemon simply just have better or cooler learnsets. Some Pokemon in 1.0.2 still had kinda bland movesets compared to the competition or lacked a cool gimmick so as part of the Major Update’s title I “sauced” a lot of Pokemon up. Some nerfs were given through balancing to some of the more broken mons (Starmie/Shuckle/etc) but they got some cool buffs too to compensate. Mostly expect buffs! Early game Pokemon also are generally buffed to deal with Cheren/Roxie better making the early game less of a box check for nuzlockers!
  • New encounter area in Pledge Grove! This will help nuzlockers get an extra Pokemon for early-game giving you way more options for early fights!
  • Majority of Trainers will be noticeably harder on all difficulties! Gym fights are toned down (primarily for the early/mid game) so the game’s difficulty feels a lot more evened out.
  • New Difficulty Modes! Super Weenie Hut Jr, Weenie Hut Jr, and Salty Spitoon Mode! Super Weenie Hut Jr and Weenie Hut Jr are actually the same difficulty (previously Easy/Normal). Salty Spitoon Mode is the new challenge mode! It works the same as regular Challenge mode with the harder Gym/Elite 4/Champion fights with 30 IVs on every trainers. However, now all difficulty modes will have the SAME levels and level caps.
  • Some of Badge 4’s dialogue has been added (primarily parts of Nimbasa City/Route 4/Desert Resort). Trainers around Burgh split have more new dialogue as well including parts of Pokestar Studio. This is a gameplay update not really much of a dialogue update.
  • Adjustments to encounter locations, some Pokemon were made accessible earlier and there’s just a little more variety scattered across.
  • WAY more accessibility to new items! To combat the increased Trainer difficulty not only do you get to partly EV train your Pokemon after Clay (Free Vitamins in Pokemon Center alongside EV Reducing Berries), but you get access to way way more competitive items! Check Item Locations tab in the Master Doc to see where to get everything! Evolution Stones are also accessible after Clay too!
  • Pokestar Studio can be partly skipped now! You can just choose to exit the studio after being asked to make a movie! You still need to see Roxie’s Dad’s movie but there’s some new dialogue throughout Pokestar Studio to make the experience both much shorter and much sillier!
  • Fixed an issue with MelonDS and potentially more accurate emulators where Double Battles on individual Trainers can crash your game! It should work now improving compatability on more emulators!
  • Lots more! These are the main significant features and I hope that this update greatly improves the Silly Edition gameplay experience! The game is also probably way way more fun as a nuzlocker now too with the amount of extra options/QOL you are given now!

v1.0.2

  • A few early area trainers have been made harder.
  • Adjusted and improved movesets of the Rufflet line, Shelmet line, Vullaby line, Azurill line, and Yanma line.
  • Shaymin Attack Stat reduced: 65 -> 60 further making the Cheren fight easier on both difficulties!
  • Patrat had stats adjusted (65 Defense -> 75 Defense, 35 Special Attack -> 25 Special Attack).
  • Pidgey line now always has the Speed Boost ability!
  • Possibly fixed a crash that was happening with one of the Scientists at Chargestone Cave.
  • Some mons that were accidentally made Level 1 had their levels fixed.

Thanks to:

  • Frost Falcon for that FrostGen5Tool, it’s a great Gen 5 rom hacking tool that I used for script edits/pokemon changes/move changes/trainer changes/the works.
  • DarmaniDan for giving feedback on my spreadsheet. I also used one of his template tabs for connecting Pokemon sprites to wild encounters on my encounters doc!
  • Hzla for making Pokeweb, before FrostGen5Tools I used Pokeweb and he’s goated for making a cool tool like that.
  • The many playtesters on my discord server! Especially Tireman, Dan, PaipoPaipo, Oka, The Goose, and Tisq Birque! They were the main playtesters and helped keep me motivated to continue deving!
  • CH340 for CTRMap (I think he’s the dev?) and for helping me fix a few issues on the Gen 5 Rom Hacking discord
  • Pleonex for the TINKE application, that was pretty useful for making some edits thank you!
  • Gen 5 rom hacking discord in general, couldn’t do it without them! They gave me lots of feedback on general design philosophy and how to do certain things! They also gave me specific hex codes needed to do certain edits to the game (such as the super rod, static encounters, challenge mode unlock, etc).
