Description

Pokemon Shadows of Time is a story-driven hack of HeartGold featuring two large custom regions—the “past” and “present” versions of the Himitsu region—that players can explore alongside Celebi. It introduces a shadow Pokémon cult, where shadow Pokémon can be caught and purified. Though the demo is not a full game, it offers a sneak peek into the map and showcases various proof-of-concepts and features.

Story

Twenty years before the player’s journey, a mysterious plague believed to be caused by Darkrai swept the region, plunging victims into endless nightmares and leaving them in a deep sleep. A generation of children, unaffected, watched their loved ones suffer. One such child, an 8-year-old orphaned girl, lived with Pokémon in the forest, haunted by her fear of death. She eventually befriended Celebi.

Celebi took the girl back in time, to when a vast lake still existed in the region. In the “present”, this lake had mostly dried up due to a mining operation and a nearby city overusing the water supply. In the “past”, the lake housed Sinfae, a guardian of fear and paranoia, who was later banished to the Distortion World. As the girl and Celebi neared Sinfae’s cave, her fears intensified. Concerned, Celebi returned them to the “present”, but the girl was never the same.

She later tricks Celebi into returning to the “past”, where she enters Sinfae’s cave and blames Celebi for not stopping the plague. In an attempt to flee, Celebi accidentally transports both Sinfae and the girl to the present.

Now 18, the girl then began recruiting others from her generation, manipulating them with Sinfae’s influence. They believed Celebi could prevent the plague, unaware of Sinfae’s control.

With Celebi’s power, the player can travel to the “past” and explore the thriving region as it was before the lake dried up. There, they can complete trials for eight new Mega Evolutions and uncover the truth behind the ancient settlements’ downfall—once worshippers of Arceus, they turned to Hoopa, and Arceus’s wrath led to their destruction.
