Description

This is a hack focused on a “normal” exploration experience. You catch, you fight, you level up, repeat. This hack includes various features I thought would be neat to have in Gen3. This patches over the PokéEmerald Decomp rom (or other Roms that pass the SHA comparison).

Difficulty

Except for some story boss fights it’s not particularly difficult. To provide an even playground it removes some mechanics that can trivialize battles, like healing items mid fight (enemies also don’t get to use them) and a soft level cap which progresses with the story.

Tips

If you struggle with progressing or feel lost try the following:

  • Edit: After watching a VOD of Acko I have one more tip: Don’t pick Johto catch some wild Pokemon to bolster your team. The grass island on Route 203 can offer good early grass mons, especially.
  • Check your Key Items.
  • Look at the map on your PokéNav.
  • Most NPCs that are not trainers have something to tell.
  • Ask the oracle in Pacifidlog Town. For a small fee, she can tell you which general direction you are headed.

General Tips:

  • Some shops progress with story events.
  • When you are backtracking use the Escape Rope and/or make liberal use of the Infinite Repel.
  • If you are struggling with the early game and exploration of Route 203. There is an old lady to the East of Route 203 in a house on the water that will heal your party for free or you can fly back to Pacifidlog Town and backtrack with Infinite Repel.

Bugs, Glitches, and Co.

I have play-tested the whole thing, but one dev is not enough to say that it is bug-free. If you run into problems during your playtest you can use the PokéEmerald Expansion debug menu (R + Start) to use the debug function to try to save yourself. This is mainly intended to avoid wasting your time if your game breaks and your last save was 10 hours ago.
