Description
Pokémon Mu Magma (pronounced Mew Magma) is a ROM hack of Pokémon Emerald where you play as a male or female Team Magma Grunt. The game features custom sprites, story changes, and various quality-of-life improvements.
Features
- All features from pokeemerald-expansion v1.9, including Physical/Special split, Fairy type, and modern learnsets.
- Reusable TMs for easier team-building.
- Gen 5-style area popups when entering new map locations.
- Gen 6-style Exp. Share, received early in Petalburg Woods like in ORAS.
- Mega Evolution, with Mega Stones to collect throughout the game.
- Expanded Items pocket in the bag, now holding 42 items (like FRLG).
- B-button toggle for running, no need to hold the button.
- Any Pokémon can use field moves if you have the corresponding HM in your bag.
- Cleanse Tag prevents wild encounters when held, available from the start.
- Toggle between Mach and Acro Bike with the R button.
- Soft level caps encourage using a variety of Pokémon.
- S.S. Ticket obtained mid-game, allowing early travel to event-exclusive locations, including where you encounter Mew.
Dex Completion
In Pokemon Mu Magma, all Hoenn Pokémon from Gen III can be obtained through wild encounters or evolution, and forms introduced in Gen IV are also catchable. Starter Pokémon and trade evolutions are available in the wild, making it possible to complete the regional Pokédex without needing to trade. Even Gengar makes an appearance in Hoenn because, well, Gengar’s awesome!
There are also dialogue changes and small characterization tweaks to reflect your new role as a Team Magma Grunt, adding uniqueness while preserving much of the original gameplay. Though it’s not a full story overhaul, you’ll find surprises along the way!
