Update Instructions

1. On your old version, SAVE inside the Olivine PokeCenter, then close the game.
2. Replace your old .gbc file with the new 2.5.9 .gbc file (Note: If you downloaded the ROM from here, you’ll have an equivalent .zip file instead)
3. Don’t forget to make sure your .gbc and .sav file are named the same thing!
4. After entering the overworld, walk down and exit the Olivine PokeCenter.
5. Once you’re outside, press A on the “POKE” sign on the building.
   • If your save needs updating, you’ll be warped inside the building.
   • If you hear a “Ding” sound, everything’s good.
6. You’re done!

Best Emulators for Playing Crystal Clear

• The best PC emulator to use with Crystal Clear is BGB: http://bgb.bircd.org/ (effectively 1:1 with real consoles) Don’t use any variant of VBA, these all have frequent graphical errors.
• For Linux, we suggest running BGB with Wine (https://www.winehq.org/)
• For macOS, the SameBoy project (https://sameboy.github.io/) is recommended.
• For Android users, PizzaBoy has been shown to be the best in terms of ease of use compared to accuracy. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.dbtecno.pizzaboy)
  • GBC.emu is also a good emulator, but it costs money
• For iOS users, the best option without jailbreaking is Provenance (https://builds.io/apps/provenance/) This build costs money. There is a free version but you will have to continuously reinstall it. This build circumvents that.
• For those playing using a GBA (not GBC) flashcart, make sure you enable Goomba mode when patching.

Changelog v2.5.10

Preface

Nothing has changed about anything I wrote in the 2.5.9 changelog preface. If you haven’t read that, I suggest you do. That said, there was a very strange bug found exclusively when using hardware that could randomly crash when opening the start menu, and that is obviously unacceptable. The other bugs were extremely minor and could’ve been left unpatched, but hey – if I’m already here…might as well.

Quality of Life

Between shinies and powerful auras, there’s no shortage of unique battle start messages. That said, as I’ve watched people play the game, there’s one combination of DVs that always gets fanfare when it happens to come up. As a direct result, I’ve chosen to highlight it in game as well.

• A quick animation and message will play when finding a species with all zero DVs. Soft resetting will also be locked until the battle starts, like shinies are.

Fixes

• Fixed start menu crashing under odd hardware circumstances when playing on certain hardware
• Fixed Daycare menu account not printing correctly during the Bug Catching Contest
• Kenya’s reset status will now be properly displayed by the Dex
• Fixed Morty’s Set 11 introduction text being incorrect
• Fixed a minor issue with some of Fibbef’s text
• Pigy oinking outside of the box should be fixed, but it’s up to him.
