Story

It started with a story. About 10 years ago, either here or on a long-lost GameFAQs board, a user reminisced about the build-up to Gold and Silver back in the 90-s. The marketing drove him crazy, he said; he’d scrutinize every new ad for a glimpse at a new ‘Mon, learned their names and drew fanart. The info was scarce, but that just drove him on. He counted the days to release and spent sleepless nights. Daydreaming.

Flash forward to release day; He pops the cart, meets Elm, and chooses his starter. He blazes out to the first route, excited for the myriad new monsters–hiding in caves, dwelling on land and underwater–and bam! A random encounter! The text flashed:

WILD RATTATA ATTACKED!

He stared down the face of this common rat, and at that moment, I knew him. I knew his disappointment at finding a brand new exciting place pregnant with boring, last-gen pokemon. No other gen has been as awful with this, as Gen2. That is, until now.

My sales pitch for REFINED CRYSTAL is very simple: it’s the Johto you know, sans Gen1 filler. That’s right, all 100 Gen2 Pokes(and their close relatives) have been redistributed throughout the whole region for variety, accessibility, and balance. There’re some exceptions, mostly plot-related: Gyrados at Lake of Rage, the Farfetch’d in Ilex Forest, etc. But the goal is to showcase that odd 100 and make you fall in love with them once again.
