Description
Pokemon Crippling Medical Debt Edition is a lighthearted decomp hack of Emerald. After being run over by truck-kun, a trainer wakes up alive, but with a much worse problem: he has no health insurance. Without insurance to cover the astronomical hospital costs, his only option is to explore a completely new region, challenge gyms, and destroy the Pokémon League to win the prize money and clear his overwhelming medical debt before the creditors come knocking.
The game offers a challenge that sits comfortably between the mainline games and Kaizo hacks. Soft level caps and Set battle style are enabled by default, though both can be adjusted in the options menu. A standard playthrough demands thoughtful team-building and strategy for major battles, while dedicated Nuzlockers can enable a dedicated Nuzlocke Conveniences menu for an even smoother experience.
Features
- Customized Story and Region: Enjoy a lighthearted, comedic narrative full of social satire, set in a completely new map, following the desperation of a penniless protagonist.
- Next-Generation Battle Engine: Play with the full mechanics of Generation 9, an active Mega Evolution system (excluding megas from Legends Z-A), and a massive Pokédex with over 1,000 Pokémon available, covering everything up to the mythical Pecharunt.
- Maximum Convenience Package (QoL): Enjoy stress-free gameplay with unlimited use TMs and HMs, a backpack with unlimited item space, a portable healing tool to use anywhere on the map, and instant access to Stats, IVs, and EVs data directly from your team menu.
Quality of Life Changes
- TMs have unlimited uses.
- You don’t need to teach Pokemon HMs to use them in the overworld. Flash is automatically used in dark areas if you have the appropriate Gym Badge. Fly can be used by any Pokemon that could learn it normally once you have the HM and the required badge. If you don’t have any of those Pokemon, there is also another fast travel option unlockable before the third Gym.
- Bag space is unlimited.
- Sort your bag by pressing Start.
- The Pokedex shows how all Pokemon evolve and shows their movesets. The Pokedex for a specific Pokemon can be opened from the Party menu to give easier access to this info (thank you to ravepossum for this implementation).
- Stat redistribution and level swapping are available if you find them in the world, minimizing grinding and letting you easily prepare for hard battles.
- XP gains have been rebalanced, minimizing grinding by accelerating you towards the appropriate level for Gym leaders and preventing overshoot. There are four difficulty settings for the XP cap: Soft (intended) which allows light overshoot, Hard which disables overlevelling past a Gym leader or story battle, No Cap which gives no overshoot penalty, and EZ which is the same as no cap with a bonus 30% boost to XP gains.
- A key item is available that allows you to heal your party outside of battle four times before having to revisit a Pokemon Center.
- You can sleep in your bed to change the time of day.
- Repels have been improved to repel up to 7 levels higher than your lead Pokemon.
- Pokemon can relearn moves they’d learn by level up from the party menu.
- Escape rope has unlimited uses.
- Items in the bag can be sorted by pressing Start.
- Pokemon can be renicknamed from the party menu.
- No trading is required for evolutions.
- Moves with dynamic typing, like Hidden Power, show their type in battle and on the summary screen. Return and Frustration show their power on the summary screen.
- IVs and EVs can be seen on the summary screen by pressing L and R.
- Hyper training is available to improve a Pokemon’s IVs.
- Mints are available to change a Pokemon’s nature.
- Pokeballs can be used from the battle screen.
- A Nuzlocke Conveniences menu can be enabled from the options menu for challenge runners.
- Consequences for your actions?
