Introduction
What if, instead of opposing the region’s evil team from the beginning, the player actually worked for them before eventually turning against them? This concept became the foundation for Pokémon Willpower. While other fangames and ROM hacks may explore similar themes, Pokémon Willpower brings a unique approach to this storyline. Built using the Pokémon Essentials v21.1 toolkit, this game takes players on a different kind of journey, challenging their morality and choices as they switch sides.
Backstory
The player and their childhood friend, Hazel, once turned to thievery to survive after growing up without a home. Their fortunes changed when they were taken in by Professor Beech, the Senoden region’s most renowned professor. In exchange for a place to live, they assisted Beech with his research, which often involved acquiring rare Pokémon or items like the Master Ball. Others in similar situations joined them, forming a group known as Team Promeno, hidden away in Merton Town—an obscure place no typical trainer visits.
However, an accident in one of Beech’s labs led the player and Hazel to grow suspicious of him, eventually leaving Team Promeno and resorting to theft once again. This lifestyle didn’t last long, as they were soon caught by the police. Surprisingly, Professor Beech intervened, offering them a second chance and welcoming them back to Team Promeno. This is where the story begins.
